Everything you wanted to know about the Berwick Primary School annual production

    Changes to 2013 in red

    2014

    • All children are expected to be involved in the production.
    • This year the production will take place on the 4th last week of term 3 ie week 7 – 25th, 26th and 27th August.
    • The venue is the Frankston Arts Centre.
    • Monday and Tuesday will be daytime technical rehearsals at the venue ie primarily for the benefit of the production crew – see att. timetable for details. Do not panic when cues do not occur, they will on the night!
    • Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday night are the performance nights.
    • The show will run from 7.30 – 9.30
    • Our theme is The Greatest Movies of All Time

    Production Committee

    • The PC is made up of grade level reps and specialists.
    • Your rep is responsible for communicating all important info about your item.
    • The PC meets periodically leading up to the show to maximise the quality of our performance and minimise the stress on all.

    The Script

    • Each grade level is responsible for choosing an aspect of the chosen theme and writing their own short script.
    • Once your script is written it must be exactly the same on both nights, regardless of cast changes.
    • Generally the grade items are a mixture of dialogue, dance and song.
    • This theme is chosen at the start of the year.
    • The individual scripts are linked seamlessly by an overall script which essentially serves to give grade levels time to exit and enter the wings and stage crew time to alter the stage accordingly.
    • The linking script is written for selected G6 students.
    • Prep – G5 are expected to provide an act that runs for no longer than 10 minutes.
    • G6 are expected to provide an act that runs for no longer than 20 minutes.
    • Scripts need to be typed on to a template which will be e-mailed to committee members.

    Opening number / Middle number

    • Children will be selected from G5 and G6 to take part in the opening number.
    • The opening number will run for 8 minutes.
    • These children will rehearse from W1 term 2 under the supervision of Kelly.
    • They will be required for 1-2 sessions every —- in the MPC.
    • Children will be selected from G1 – G4 to take part in the junior/middle number.
    • The junior/middle number will run for 5 minutes.
    • These children will rehearse from W1 term 3 under the supervision of Kelly.
    • They will be required for 1 session every Friday in the MPC.

    Rehearsals

    • Rehearsals in the gym commence 2 weeks prior to show week.
    • A timetable for the gym will be arranged by  the production committee
    • Dress rehearsals with props will happen on the Wednesday, Thursday and Friday of the fifth last week of term 3 ie week 6.

    Assistance

    • Suzie Ryrie will choreograph and teach every year level one massed item to be used at production (this will take place in term 2 and term 3).
    • Dave will be available to assist all grade levels with props and backdrops (computer images).
    • Arj will be available to assist all grade levels re: music. This includes sourcing, editing, recording backing tracks and recording singing. Please try not to have kids singing over the top of someone else’s existing vocals. It is much more effective to have them accompanying themselves. If you need backing tracks try to let Arj know by mid term 2.
    • Desrae and Alison are available to assist all grade levels with singing.
    • Backdrops will all be computer generated and need to meet strict criteria to ensure consistency across the levels.

    Costumes

    • We have a range of costumes in the costume room. Wendy Clair has gathered a list of ‘helpers’ and will be implementing a series of working bees to make costumes. Kate Bartholomeusz will act as a liaison between the production committee and Wendy.
    • A sheet will circulate in term 2 for you to make costume requests.
    • Please note that costumes will not travel on the truck.

    Props

    • A sheet will circulate in term 2 for you to make prop requests.

    Make up

    • If you are using make up please ensure that you have parental approval.

    Budgets

    • There is no specific limit on spending but we try to recycle what we can. Any material costs (for costumes) and prop costs need to be run by Emily and requests are usually met.

    The Truck

    • A truck will be packed on the Sunday. This will take all props and other

large items. Please make sure that anything you want on the truck is in the gym foyer by the Friday afternoon. Note that costumes will not travel on the truck.

    The Show

    • Prep-G3 have 3 completely separate casts and G4-G6 one cast.
    • Please ensure that siblings are performing on the same nights. This must start from the prep level. Make sure that a G4-6 child who has a major part on only one night (even though he/she maybe involved in all three) has that role on the same night as their younger sibling! Also keep tabs on any new students who commence after you have casted.
    • The order of acts is opening number, prep, G1, G2, G3, interval (20minutes), middle number, G4, G5 and G6.
    • During the show the children will all be together in 2 large rooms adjacent to the foyer or backstage. Grade 1, 2 and 5 will be in the Rotary Room, Prep, Grade 3 and 4 in the Peninsula Room and Grade 6 backstage. Desrae or Isabel will collect your cast and lead you to the backstage area at the appropriate time.
    • If required, a bus will run from school to Frankston and back on the nights.

    The Program

    • A short synopsis of your item is required. No thank-you’s are necessary.

    DVDs

    • Are produced and made available through the office for parents to buy.
    • Copies can be found in the library of past productions.
